Welcome to BITT nutrition. I am a farmer's daughter, registered dietitian, IIN health coach, and personal trainer looking at the body as a whole so we can have the best quality of life possible, while feeling the best!

So much to be thankful for like this wild 2 year o

So much to be thankful for like this wild 2 year old, little girl that provided the best facial expression, and amazing husband.

Thankful for the families that surrounded the table and trusted me with their dinner as I cooked my first Thanksgiving dinner. ⁣
⁣
Thankful for my parents, opening their home, and mom for guiding me with the turkey and stuffing. ⁣
⁣
What I made for the menu:⁣
-veggies with Greek yogurt ranch dip⁣
-Turkey with grass fed butter and herbs under the skin⁣
-Gravy⁣
-Stuffing ⁣
-roasted @duffieldsfarm veggies [brussels, broccoli, cauli, sweet potatoes topped with pomegranate seeds]⁣
-roasted garlic red skin mashed potatoes ⁣
-pumpkin pie made with @duffieldsfarm pumpkin⁣

Years ago holidays used to give me such ANXIETY because of the food and pressure of having to eat perfect every single day. ⁣

So glad I am able to enjoy the stuffing, cranberries, dessert AND feel GOOD about it. I don’t binge or restrict anymore. Instead I walk out of the holiday feeling good, I mean it is just another meal/day. ⁣

3 months [and a few days] of breastfeeding with a

3 months [and a few days] of breastfeeding with a @haakaausa at most feedings and toddler around means gaining patience, a packed freezer of milk, learning how to do things with one hand, and a toddler learning directions. ⁣⁣

I don’t know about you, but this October has been non-stop and a bit crazy. With multiple events every week and weekend, I ate some foods and drinks that are out of the ordinary for me. AND I feel it! Personally, I start craving my healthy lifestyle and the way it makes me feel [a feeling I wish everyone would feel]. ⁣

It isn’t about the weight for me, it is about how I feel. ⁣

I am excited for a new month on a new week to be refreshed. ⁣

I am not here to beat myself up with extreme exercise or dieting, just working on getting my normal eating and fitness back in place. ⁣

Just like when a child is told “no” they fixate on it and want it more, ending with a tantrum. ⁣
(Maybe this is on my mind because I am dealing with a two year old 🤣). ⁣

We can be similar. ⁣

When we are told we can’t have something, most often we want it more.⁣
⁣
A restrictive diet that lasts too long can create a poor relationship with food and being scared to eat when the “diet” is done. ⁣
⁣
Pushing aside those restrictions can actually clear your anxiety around food. ⁣
⁣
With the holidays coming, this is the perfect time to build a healthy relationship with food!⁣

In all seriousness eating healthy doesn’t have to be expensive. It all depends if you prioritize your wellness before it turns to an illness. ⁣

Legit Labor Day for me 4 weeks ago was a bit crazy

Legit Labor Day for me 4 weeks ago was a bit crazy. ⁣
I wasn’t going to post this photo, it isn’t that flattering but giving labor is filled with sweat, tears, pain, and love. (Yes, I wore the mask most of the time since I was rushed up to L&D, I honestly forgot I had it on.)⁣
⁣If you want to hear some of my labor story continue reading and I will do a blog post on more details for my own memories and for all asking about natural labor. ⁣

I didn’t think I was going to have her early, since my son came 2 weeks late. So the week before, I worked a full week and traveled to Blue Bell, Pa for work on Fri., Sat. I worked out and weeded outside (ended in triage at 12 pm for extreme itching and went home), Sun. I started the day at church with my son. My contractions were 7 min apart and I had a feeling she was coming that day. Went home emailed work, clients, did my nails, cleaned and did laundry (hate coming home to a messy house). We were supposed to go to @reece_wilke 30th birthday party at 3. At 2:15 my husband said I can’t go to a party and have to stop talking with every 5 min contraction 🤣… instead we went to the hospital (was hoping for the birth center to be done— next time 🤷🏼‍♀️). ⁣
⁣Triage wouldn’t take me back, even though I was crying with contractions at this point. So thankful for my midwife that pushed to get me back to check me and guess what… I was 10 cm already! ⁣
I was rushed up to L&D, put on antibiotics for GBS +, made her break my water, and at 5:18pm I pushed her out. ⁣
⁣My second natural delivery, much shorter and not as much back labor, other than her being sunny side up (didn’t know that was painful 🤷🏼‍♀️) with the umbilical cord around her neck. ⁣

⁣So thankful for my midwife, husband, and awesome L&D nurse for letting me yell, motivating me, and telling me I am strong. I don’t do natural labor for other people, I do it because I wouldn’t want to go to any other midwife/Obgyn and I like to see what my body can handle (just like working out or running a marathon). Natural, epidural, or c-section are all hard, all woman are strong no matter the type of labor!⁣

Years ago I would have never allowed all these foods in one day. Now I realize that food doesn’t control me and I will not let it ruin special memories. ⁣
⁣
If you are struggling with your relationship with food, I want to encourage you that it doesn’t have to be that way. Change won’t happen over night, but the memories (without the stress of food) is refreshing.⁣

Happy first day of school for so many kids and tea

Happy first day of school for so many kids and teachers today!⁣

The focus is mostly on kids, but I want to put it on our teachers! I have had many teachers and counselors that have touched my life and taught me many lessons, life and character lessons as well. ⁣
⁣
These nutrition steps are important for teachers to:⁣
✏️ be energized the whole day (you can’t run a car without fuel.. nutrition is your fuel)⁣
✏️ to best handle the students⁣
✏️ for their mental health (poor nutrition has been shown to worsen symptoms of depression, anxiety, etc.)⁣
✏️ for blood sugar control (prevent drops that can lead to irritability, lightheaded, fatigue)⁣
✏️ prevent dehydration (signs: tired, lightheaded, headaches)⁣
✏️ prevent ‘before dinner’ or ‘late night’ bingeing or snacking on foods that aren’t leading to your goals ⁣
✏️ to have energy to enjoy their family when they are done work ⁣
⁣
Teachers you are making a difference in these kid’s lives and I thank you for that. This year especially, these students need the best teacher to be there for them and teach them lessons they will remember for life! Stay healthy and go inspire your students!⁣
