Welcome to BITT nutrition. I am a farmer's daughter, registered dietitian, IIN health coach, and personal trainer looking at the body as a whole so we can have the best quality of life possible, while feeling the best!

Getting pretty emotional over here lately… especially with 8 weeks left of Bryce being the only child. ⁣
⁣
I had a father and son in a session this week. I provided realistic nutritional changes that were agreed on together and goals to work on when he is ready. At the end of the session, the father mentioned that having this session with his son was a Father’s Day gift to him… I almost lost it during our meeting! I waited to get off zoom meeting to wipe my tears. ⁣
⁣
Between my pregnancy hormones and me genuinely caring for my clients to gain a better quality of life, once in awhile I tear up during or after sessions. It is so cool to see how clients progress over a few sessions, build life-changing habits, and improve their relationship with each other and food. ⁣
⁣
This past session really made me think about the small things I stress about (as type A perfectionist), but when you step out and look at the big picture are not worth the stress I give it:⁣
✨my son not eating balanced meals (or too many snacks) when some kids don’t know when their next meal will be⁣
✨messy house… when I prayed to have kids and it isn’t always easy for others ⁣
✨not spending enough time due to work… but when I am with him I show him so much love and affection ⁣
✨not wanting to be around other people without us… I am blessed that he feels so safe with us when not every child has loving parents ⁣
✨when bed time is later… maybe he was just meant to spend the extra time with those people ⁣
✨when I lose my temper… I try my best to apologize so he realizes that mommy isn’t perfect⁣

How do you pack for your summer vacation or beach trip?⁣

Vacations are great not having to cook, but that can also lead to lots of going out to eat and relying on convenience stores for food. ⁣
⁣
Be prepared with a cooler stacked with nutrient dense foods. It will be cheaper, keep you more full than eating bags of snacks, and will ensure you get some fruits and veggies that may go missing during vacation. ⁣
⁣
We went on a long drive for a weekend trip and these snacks, along with some packaged snacks & pb&j, kept the car ride a lot better! [crying toodler… feed them!]⁣
⁣
To be honest I got really sick of going out to eat after 2-3 times and really craved these foods and my normal go-to food at home.⁣
⁣
You too can start building healthy habits that you start craving homemade, healthy food while also allowing yourself to enjoy something other than salads every time you go out to eat!⁣

When your ‘diet’ or way of eating starts cutting out healthy, whole foods and recommends processed snacks instead… you are secretly creating a poor relationship with food. ⁣

Weight watchers and other accountability programs can be a great to hold you accountable. ⁣
⁣
My issue is that I have clients now coming to me viewing healthy food as “too high in points/fat/sugar/calories” but are totally fine with the processed snacks. ⁣
⁣
Nothing wrong with a balance of processed snacks once in awhile, but diet culture has changed the way we actually look at healthy, whole foods and it takes time to get those judgements out of our head. ⁣

Get out of that dinner rut!⁣

I have been talking to so many clients that are just tired of thinking of what to make for dinner! I hear ya!! ⁣
It is easy to just do the same thing over and over again. But variety is important to keep eating healthy exciting and provide different nutrients. ⁣
With all #jerseyfresh produce coming out, use this time to add excitement and variety to your dinner!⁣

Here are some suggestions to get excited about your next homemade dinner:⁣
▫️adding in-season produce (right now: peas, zucchini, cucumbers, Swiss chard, rhubarb, strawberries, beets, asparagus, radishes)⁣
▫️prepare produce in different ways (ex: zucchini boats [pic], zoodles, raw, cooked, added with sauce, salads)⁣
▫️use different cooking techniques (hello grill season!)⁣
▫️try a new recipe per week⁣
▫️incorporate different cuisines (ex: Mediterranean, Indian, Mexican, Asian)⁣
▫️use fresh herbs to season, turn into a sauce, or add more flavor ⁣
▫️create your favorite dish from a restaurant you enjoy⁣

Constipation is very common among pregnant woman due to increased levels of hormones that slow down the digestive tract. There are many factors from supplementation, lifestyle, GI history, nutrition, hydration, movement, stress, etc. ⁣

Constipation is common among many of my non-pregnant clients as well. It isn’t a topic many people bring up, but dietitians are all about the poop! It defines your health!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Constipation is considered:⁣⁣
💩less than 3 bowel movements a week⁣⁣
💩hard, lumpy, dry, or worse little rabbit turds⁣⁣
💩straining or difficult to pass ⁣⁣
💩feeling that you didn’t pass all stool ⁣⁣
💩or whatever you feel is different for you... because everyone is different. ⁣⁣

I have helped clients go from no bowel movement for 4 days and now going daily! These are just a few general tips, but an individualized plan is best to identify why you are having constipation and what we can do to improve your bowel movements. ⁣

FOOD WASTE: One of my biggest pet peeve and one weird fact about me below!⁣

Food waste is like throwing away money that could go towards healthy food or helping others. And Americans throw away 30-40% of food! ⁣
⁣
🧐Think about 1/3 of your food going straight into the trash, wasted nutrients as people are out there struggling to figure out when their next meal is coming. ⁣
⁣
When was the last time you took a good look at the food at the bottom of your freezer or back of your pantry?⁣
⁣
Maybe try for a week to use up what you have at home. Clean out the fridge, pantry, and freezer. You will save money, food going to the landfill, and create a clean slate to fill with nutrient dense foods. ⁣
⁣
➡️weird fact about me...I love to clean and organize pantries and fridges. I love when my fridge is empty so I can fill it with new and healthy products (as it is now!). ⁣
When I was in middle school I would clean out my friend’s parent’s pantries to make it easier to eat the old stuff before the new. ⁣
⁣
When I was dating my husband, I would clean and organize his parent’s fridge (with permission). When they have pizza night, I eat some of their leftovers. ⁣
⁣
Last night I turned baked potatoes into smashed rosemary potatoes, steamed veggies into seasoned roasted veggies, and grilled chicken sliced into our salad. ⁣
⁣
I can’t handle seeing food become moldy, thrown out, and wasted. Bags filled going to the landfill, which than increases greenhouse gases! ⁣

I went MIA from social media for a week or so and will probably start doing it more often. ⁣

Being totally vulnerable here... social media has put a lot of pressure and strain on me (and relationships around me) after long days of working with clients all day, taking care of an 18 month old, eating healthy, working out, doing normal house stuff, and being more tired this pregnancy sometimes the last thing I want to do is create and organize posts. ⁣
⁣
These week stepping back on the amount I am on social media helped me with my anxiety and provided so much more time for me to focus on my business, family, the Word, and me. ⁣
⁣
I am letting go of the pressure of these little squares and putting that energy for greater things. I will still be here providing free education for you, but will give more to my clients and new clients. ⁣
⁣

When I get clients that want to stop their dieting and just start living a healthy lifestyle without the anxiety around food... I want to jump through my screen and hug them. ⁣
⁣
I lived YEARS with an unhealthy relationship with food. From strict restricting, binge eating, emotional eating, and extreme exercise. To only find myself with amenorrhea (missing periods), extreme anxiety around parties with food, and hating myself too many times after a binge session. ⁣
⁣
Living life without that anxiety or feeling judged (“you are a dietitian and eating _____?”) around food is so amazing. ⁣
⁣
I look back and look at the events and relationships I missed (mentally). Maybe I needed therapy, but after years of working at by myself, I am free of that. ⁣
⁣
