Constipation is very common among pregnant woman due to increased levels of hormones that slow down the digestive tract. There are many factors from supplementation, lifestyle, GI history, nutrition, hydration, movement, stress, etc. ⁣

Constipation is common among many of my non-pregnant clients as well. It isn’t a topic many people bring up, but dietitians are all about the poop! It defines your health!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Constipation is considered:⁣⁣
💩less than 3 bowel movements a week⁣⁣
💩hard, lumpy, dry, or worse little rabbit turds⁣⁣
💩straining or difficult to pass ⁣⁣
💩feeling that you didn’t pass all stool ⁣⁣
💩or whatever you feel is different for you... because everyone is different. ⁣⁣

I have helped clients go from no bowel movement for 4 days and now going daily! These are just a few general tips, but an individualized plan is best to identify why you are having constipation and what we can do to improve your bowel movements. ⁣

FOOD WASTE: One of my biggest pet peeve and one weird fact about me below!⁣

Food waste is like throwing away money that could go towards healthy food or helping others. And Americans throw away 30-40% of food! ⁣
⁣
🧐Think about 1/3 of your food going straight into the trash, wasted nutrients as people are out there struggling to figure out when their next meal is coming. ⁣
⁣
When was the last time you took a good look at the food at the bottom of your freezer or back of your pantry?⁣
⁣
Maybe try for a week to use up what you have at home. Clean out the fridge, pantry, and freezer. You will save money, food going to the landfill, and create a clean slate to fill with nutrient dense foods. ⁣
⁣
➡️weird fact about me...I love to clean and organize pantries and fridges. I love when my fridge is empty so I can fill it with new and healthy products (as it is now!). ⁣
When I was in middle school I would clean out my friend’s parent’s pantries to make it easier to eat the old stuff before the new. ⁣
⁣
When I was dating my husband, I would clean and organize his parent’s fridge (with permission). When they have pizza night, I eat some of their leftovers. ⁣
⁣
Last night I turned baked potatoes into smashed rosemary potatoes, steamed veggies into seasoned roasted veggies, and grilled chicken sliced into our salad. ⁣
⁣
I can’t handle seeing food become moldy, thrown out, and wasted. Bags filled going to the landfill, which than increases greenhouse gases! ⁣
⁣
Sooo... are you someone that forgets what’s in the back of your fridge?⁣

I went MIA from social media for a week or so and will probably start doing it more often. ⁣
⁣
Being totally vulnerable here... social media has put a lot of pressure and strain on me (and relationships around me) after long days of working with clients all day, taking care of an 18 month old, eating healthy, working out, doing normal house stuff, and being more tired this pregnancy sometimes the last thing I want to do is create and organize posts. ⁣
⁣
These week stepping back on the amount I am on social media helped me with my anxiety and provided so much more time for me to focus on my business, family, the Word, and me. ⁣
⁣
I am letting go of the pressure of these little squares and putting that energy for greater things. I will still be here providing free education for you, but will give more to my clients and new clients. ⁣
⁣

When I get clients that want to stop their dieting and just start living a healthy lifestyle without the anxiety around food... I want to jump through my screen and hug them. ⁣

I lived YEARS with an unhealthy relationship with food. From strict restricting, binge eating, emotional eating, and extreme exercise. To only find myself with amenorrhea (missing periods), extreme anxiety around parties with food, and hating myself too many times after a binge session. ⁣
⁣
Living life without that anxiety or feeling judged (“you are a dietitian and eating _____?”) around food is so amazing. ⁣
⁣
I look back and look at the events and relationships I missed (mentally). Maybe I needed therapy, but after years of working at by myself, I am free of that. ⁣
⁣

My 30 minute outdoor leg workout consisted of:⁣⁣
▫️tire flips⁣⁣
▫️banded squat hold with rope slams⁣⁣
▫️banded lunges with alternating arm rope slams ⁣⁣
▫️TRX 1 leg squats⁣⁣
▫️TRX curtsy lunges ⁣⁣
▫️weighted squat and press ⁣⁣
▫️running around with Bryce ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
30 min walks or workouts at home or the gym are all I can get these days. Life happens, but I will always find a way to keep moving. ⁣⁣

⭐️Did you know eating more plants is good for your body to reduce the risk for chronic disease and inflammation AND also helps the environment?⁣

The Western diet, packaging from processed food and take out, and large amount of food waste (up to 40% of our food) is actually hurting our environment and our bodies (and wallets). ⁣
⁣
I have been talking about sustainability with clients and we throw away about 1/3 of our food! So how about we put that wasted money toward foods that heal us! ⁣
⁣
When we start incorporating more plants (nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, fruits, veggies, whole grains, oils) your body will thank you. You will find you don’t need that large amount of meat to fill you up!⁣
⁣
Plus you will fill your 3+ servings of veggies and 2+ servings of fruit within your day... trust me many of my clients are not hitting those numbers!⁣
⁣
You don’t need to label yourself as vegan, vegetarian, plant based, etc.... just start eating more plants!!⁣
⁣

Cinnamon buns were always at holiday brunch. Usually Pillsbury cinnamon buns. So I created a healthier, homemade version. ⁣

I am too lazy to wait for dough to rise, so instead I just use “self-rising” flour and low fat plain Greek yogurt to make these cinnamon rolls in less than an hour! Inspired by @lilsipper ⁣

Not a food or nutrition post, but I look at all aspects of health... one being your spiritual beliefs. I have clients with many different beliefs. I never judge any clients based on their religious beliefs or bring up mine during a session. ⁣

I am blessed with amazing clients that the Lord has put in my life. ⁣
⁣

As we go through this week, Holy Week, may we not forget what lead up to Easter. The pain Jesus went through on the cross to pay for our sins, then to rise from the grave. ⁣
⁣
No matter what sin or pain you may think God can never forgive or heal, know he left it all at the grave FOR YOU. Your suffering can lead to joy and no sin is too far from being forgiven, you just need to give it to him and believe that he can do all things. ⁣
⁣
Use this week to reflect on this past year/ years sufferings you may have encountered and start finding the joy in the small, mundane blessings the Lord has provided (I know it can be hard). ⁣
⁣
I love you all and hope you all have a great week! This week we will be announcing the gender of baby #2, reveal with peeps and smoke! I will also be providing an Easter brunch recipe! ⁣
